Sir Not-Appearing-In-This-Class

Originally there had been a trip to the Ohio RenFest planned the previous Sunday, but I missed it due to a work meeting.  Instead, I drew poses from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.  These are the first 100; I'll be uploading the next sketches in a different post.

Day 10: A few Things...

At first the class went to an outdoor rock climbing wall.  Some of my favorite poses were 2-8:  a man doing some advanced yoga poses.  Knees over the shoulder type of stuff.

However, getting so into Fall, we had about an hour before it got too dark to see and the climbers started to leave.  Instead we went and met back in the class room and drew poses from "The Ministry of Silly Walks" from Monty Python's Flying Circus.  Continuing with the silly-leg-movement theme, we next drew poses from an Olympic marathon.

Day 9: Cory

This time we had a life model come into the class to pose for us.  He's actually posed in other classes I've had before, like painting or a figure drawing class.  Funnily enough, he and his wife sometimes come into the store where I work, and he recognized me.  We had a nice brief chat about the school.  Anyway, here are the poses he did for us.

Also featured:  a contour doodle of myself when we were doing contour line drawings.

Day 8: Easton Town Center

Malls, I've discovered, are a great place for life drawing.  The Food Court especially so:  people are sitting or standing in poses for an extended time, are varying in age and size, and offer different styles of clothing to draw.

Day 7: The Secret Word is...

SPORTS

We started off the night with Kim Yuna's ice skating performance from the 2010 Olympics.

Next was the "Rumble in the Jungle" with Muhammad Ali and George Foreman in their 1974 boxing match.  Watching this scene, I realized that I know a lot more about boxing than I thought I did.  Namely that this fight was called "Rumble in the Jungle" and that Ali won (spoiler alert).  I did learn that boxing is really, really hard to draw like this.

Next were a series of Sumo wrestling matches.  The page is labled as "Sumo Natsu Basho 2013," but I cannot recall for the life of me what that meant.  A little easier than boxing to draw, but still rather challenging.

Day 6: Actor's Theatre of Columbus

Tonight we went to see the Actor's Theatre of Columbus perform Romeo and Juliet.  The troupe took on a post-apocolyptic theme to the show, which came across beautifully, I thought.  A lot of leather, chains, and dirt in this show.

Day 4: In-Class Session

Today we stayed in class and drew various poses from film and web resources.

At first we just drew circles and lines as a way to warm up and practice.

The first batch were from a website from this online figure drawing resource which is a pretty great site.  For some reason I really wanted to draw big today, so a lot of them are 6-10 a page at first.

Next was a short scene from Duck Soup.  It features Groucho and Harpo in the iconic mirror scene.

Then a scene from Top Hat featuring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers performing "Cheek to Cheek."

There was next an attempt to draw scenes from Gladiator, but that was a lot less successful.

Finally we finished up with, once again, How to Dance Properly to Get Lucky.

Day 5

I had missed Day 4 of Cafe Sketch,  but on Day 5 the group went to the Ballet Met to draw ballerinas performing and practicing.  This was a short day, so there are only 32 drawings instead of the normal 50+.

Day Three

For the third day of Cafe Sketch was a trip to see a dress rehearsal from Shadowbox.  I thought that the whole experience was great!  Looking forward to the next one!
